My Kayla

One of my first favorite images I took was of my cousin Sonya.  She had the most beautiful red hair,  adorable dimples and a smile that stretched from her lips to her eyes.  The picture was taken at Christmas and I’m guessing she was one, oh and I was 11ish.    Sonya died but her spirit, her smile, her love of people and her generosity have always stayed in my heart.

I have been photographing Kayla for a long time.  She is 11ish (in February) and while still being a little girl, has this way of holding herself and looking very grown up  for my camera.    I had this overwhelming feeling of Sonya the day I photographed Kayla.  I could see her and feel her.  It felt good.

I love how Kayla can act for the camera.   I guide and she follows in a very amazing way.  I wanted serious and she just wanted to be a little girl.  After I selfishly got a little creative art time with my camera and light, I let her be 11ish.    ‘Yes sweetie we can take your picture with the Santa hat.’

Thank you sweet Kayla, your Aunt Sonya would have loved you just like I do.

Stacy Amy, thank you for letting Kayla play with her inner diva. She had a blast. My heart child is growing up so fast.
