You know the song….’If you can’t be with the one you love honey, love the one you’re with”. You know the saying “The grass is always greener.”
When we were on vacation this summer I hired a driver to take me to a place I had seen and had to go back and photograph. We didn’t have a car, it didn’t matter, I’d pay whatever it took to get me back there. When Ger – not Gerald, just Ger – came to pick me back up, I was asking him if he knew any other locations in the area where he could take me to shoot. I kept giving him ideas for things and he was just acting like I was crazy. I loved the landscape and the architecture and couldn’t get enough of it. For Ger, it was just what he was used to seeing, it wasn’t photograph worthy. As I’ve been photographing more while I am shooting at home, I’ve taken a greater interest in the beauty we have here. To someone like Ger, the corn, cows, beans, barns etc might be the most beautiful things in the world, they might be worthy of Ger hiring ME to take him around to photograph.
I think I’m in love with this corn. I was photographing a small group and they were gathering at the end to discuss an upcoming project. I’m involved in that project but the lure of the corn pulled me away. I just couldn’t help it.
You will see more of these, honestly, I can’t keep out of them……
Thank you Ger for opening the eyes of this Iowa photographer. I’m sure you won’t remember me, I’ll always remember you!
