“Bye now, LeRoy B.”

We’ve lost a friend.  We are heart broken and still pretty numb to it all.  Bret and LeRoy became friends when Bret did an internship during college.   He has been a part of our lives for so long, our boys certainly don’t know life without him, we don’t remember life without him. LeRoy has become friends with our friends, they feel the same.

LeRoy’s Christmas card was always the first one to arrive.  LeRoy’s birthday card was always the first one to arrive.   LeRoy’s letters, well they came more often than that.    We have saved them all I honestly need to read one every night at dinner, the best table talk ever will be generated from his thoughts.  We will continue to learn from him for always, his legacy to us.

LeRoy was 82 but it wasn’t enough.  I want one more letter.  One more lunch.  One more card.   One more smirk.  One more bit of wisdom.  One more giggle when he always arrived on ‘LeRoy time’ – 1/2 hour early.  One more chance run in with him about town.  One more look at the white flat top.  One more story.  One more listen to the beautiful candence of his voice.   One last “Bye now, LeRoy B.”  Oh how we will ALL miss you.

About 8 years ago.  The little guy on the left is as tall as daddy now.

Tomorrow, we’ll say it instead of read in in your letter ……….  By now LeRoy B

Oh and….if you know me, you’ll know what specific illness I hate.    A little more fuel has been added to my hate fire.  Or maybe, just another reason to fight it in ways that I can.
