Needed to test a couple of things.  Grabbed the nearest thing that I thought might do.  I guess she did ok :  )

Before you go thinking that Kara never smiles….Oh she does, especially when I say things like I did to get this one.

Brit, Ashley and Mikki

In 2001 I was working on a benefit concert and needed a partner.  I had met Kelly one time at a celebration dinner for a for a huuuuge innovation in Maytag washer technology (that makes me sad).   I wanted my projec to be a success and I knew Kelly was the perfect person to help me do that.  So now, almost 10 years later, Kelly is still my friend and I have had the honor of photographing her girls’ senior pictures.

I’ve grown a wee bit since then but the images and the memories are very precious to me.

Brit was my first muse.  She would do anything I wanted and we played several times.  This picture was taken in my living room, that makes me smile!!!   I love the emotion in the Evanescence song Bring Me to Life then into My Immortal.  We were thinking about that during whole session.  Love you Brit and the beautiful woman you have become.  I NEED to photograph you again.  Seriously.  Oh we also had normal pics not just moody.

This image I have had a few seniors for next year tell me they love and want to try something dark like that.  It made me smile, it is 6 years old ;  )   I still love it too.  Listen to the song, it fits.

Here is Ashley.  She let me do my thing too!  We had ‘normal’ pictures too but with her I was feeling very much Cinderella.  The strength and power of the line ‘In my own little corner, in my own little chair, I can be whatever I want to be’ inspired me to photograph Ashley’s homecoming dress and her crown.   Ashley is a nurse now, getting married and choosing Iowa as her home. *hint hint to the rest of the family*

Then of course Mikki who is a 2010 grad.  I’ve posted these before but now fun to see with her sisters.  And Mikki, I still love that Sinful tshirt.  :  )

Sara ~ Senior 2010 Newton Senior High School

On days when I feel like I started my business just yesterday, I am reminded by a picture like this that I did not.   Here is miss Sara with her brothers Sean and Devin.  I have photographed all their senior pictures.    Getting to know one senior is wonderful, getting to know the family, even better.

Same pic but in color, their blue eyes and dark hair are amazing!

Travis ~ Newton Senior High ~ Senior 2010

Travis makes me laugh.  Travis makes me laugh alot!   I love his smile but I also love his more serious look.  Any serious picture, I can probably guarantee that the frame before and after it was probably a full out laughing picture.

Travis’ mom Vicki and I have been friends since 7th grade.  It is a very crazy cool honor to get to photograph Travis and get to know him as a young man.  He is a gem, I like him.

Rachel ~ Newton High School Senior 2010

‘Dare your soul to go beyond that which you can see….’    A line from my friend david’s song that is resonating in my heart.  Isn’t that who I want to be?  Absolutely.  I want that for me and for the people I photograph.  I of course want them to see themselves but I want them to see and feel something that they might only dreamed they might be.

My long time blog readers will remember Rachel as Audrey Hepburn.  This time she came as herself  and I loooooove ‘herself”.   OK, I admit I might have egged her on a bit!

I’m normall fairly conservative in my blog posts.  I’m being a little bit more open with Rachel.   While Mom and Dad and Grandma and Grandpa and Brother can order the ‘normal’ pictures, I’m choosing to show the dare.

Rachel came over to do inside pictures right  after she was filming the movie at the old Maytag plant.  I liked what she had on so we went with it ; )

Rachel is an actress.  She knows how to play and act for the camera.  I don’t think I’m done.  I’m going to add more.  I just can’t stay away from them.
