I’m home, I’m back…really

Well sort of… After two weeks of friends visiting, a few senior shoots thrown in, a very quick pack and then a week on vacation, I’m home. I can always find a church or two to photograph on vacation. Here is one church where the light was dancing….

I’m happy to say that those pics were taken with my ‘baby’ camera, a Canon G9 (I can still set shutter speed and ap but no add on lens). For the first vacation in many years I did not lug my real camera along. At times I looked with envy at cameras along the way but most times I was happy that my camera was just a wee one hanging from my neck. It really isn’t the camera, well a good lens helps, but more the eye. I’m not sure anyone else in my group saw the light I saw in the church. My little camera did and did ok.

I’m adjusting and getting back into it, I’ve got to! Two weeks of great friends and family, I’m feeling great!

I think I have this all right. Momma and Daddy are both from Iowa but met in Arizona. Daddy worked at the same company as Miles and Bella’s Momma Whitney. Whitney is from Des Moines and has been my sister-in-law’s best friend since college. Gracie and Cash tried to have their pictures taken last summer when they were home but we were rained out. This year, um yes, we need an ark. So July 5th storms rolling through the state. We decide to live on the edge and have them come from Iowa City. It rained before, during and after our shoot. We found some windows of no rain – but not clear sky : ( but we had an adventure and I’m glad we did!

Gracie – age 4 – yes really. If she is smiling you can still see the sweet baby teeth. If she is serious, I think she looks much older. And….she acts MUCH older than 4.

Here is Cash, love his name, love love his name!!!

I seriously crossed my fingers that this would happen. : )

I love to guess who old a child is. I look at lots of things to wager my guess and I have to admit that I get it right alot.

As I was editing Gracie’s picture, I thought she would be a fun one to guess on. Now I haven’t given you much, but go ahead take a guess.

Comment on the blog post and I’ll come back later and post their whole blog and tell you then. Gracie and her brother Cash have a great story on how they got to me. Lots of determination!!!

A little play with Miss LaQuon

I was able to take a few more of LaQuon while she is here visiting her Iowa family. My fingers are crossed that she’ll come again next summer for some senior pics. Hopefully her braces will be off so she’ll be showing me some smiles : ) for now, all she needs to show me are some looks, I am happy!

Miles and Bella

Miles and Bella come ‘home’ from Arizona to Des Moines each summer and I am so fortunate to be on their list of things to do!

Here is last year -

I’m looking at Bella’s bow. Whitney, her momma, told me that the bow in Bella’s hair is her ‘look’. I loved that and have smiled at every picture I’ve edited. Kinda like my Cole’s John Deere hat is his look.

Something is missing from this year’s picture, the joy of being six!

You know I’m loving Bella’s hair and love this picture how the light caught the curls.

Carly turned 2 and I can now complete the picture before!!! Seriously Alyssa, it seems like yesterday that we were doing Cael’s newborn pictures. Time goes so quickly…. sigh…. This was Carly’s catch up shoot, no more shrine to Cael at home ; )

It’s raining today and I wanted to go to the pool. Since I’m not there, I thought it would be perfect to blog a rain shoot!!! When client’s come from afar, it isn’t so easy to just reschedule. So, after some studio and porch time, we forged ahead. I’m glad we did!

This kind of shoot is soul food for me.

Harper and Remington

3 year olds. Seriously always my favorite. OK, I love lots of ages but most times, you’ll hear me go on and on about 3 year olds. One of the many things that melted my heart that day, I had a hard time photographing Harper because she kept asking me to hold her. I was a goner. She had me.

Having watched a couple of boys play for years with trucks, it was fun to watch Remington play, I should have shot my boys doing this more.

Many pictures of Harper looked like this. A smile but a talking smile. She had a lot to tell me and I loved listening to her every word.

I think I could have posted 50 pictures easily. I had a blast. You probably already figured that out. <3

david in Des Moines

david is fighting his second major battle with a grade 4 brain tumor. This diagnosis was in November of 2008 and he just keeps fighting. I’m not sure how he does it and am always amazed by his strength and attitude. He’ll be in Des Moines with a new album release and some new stories to tell.

I am blessed and lucky to have been photographing david for over 7 years and some crazy number like 17 CDs.

I talked to two people just this week who told me that david’s music has helped them as they were fighting something, not necessarily cancer. Made my day!
