A beautiful place to shoot!

I get very very very bored by shooting in the same location over and over again.  Sometimes I certainly have to but my mind is always thinking and my eyes are always looking.  Sometimes I wonder why I didn’t think or look at something before, why did it take me so long.  Many times I find something aways from home and wish I could bring it just a little bit closer.  Here is an example of both!

I was getting ready to go visit family and decided it had been waaaay too long since I had photographed my niece Lauren.  My family is all from the Cedar Rapids area.   We have traveled there my whole life, alot.  All the sudden it hit me, the Maid Rite.  Seriously, do you know any other building that is striped and so fun?  What is special about this Maid Rite is that it is/was on the same block as where my grandparents lived, seriously right under my nose.  I have driven by/rode my tricycle by, walked by etc forever.  All I had to do was walk out their back door, walk by the neighbor Nicki’s house, walk past the row of garages, go through the Baptist church parking lot and I was there.   My grandparents have sadly been gone 25 years but I still love that area and their house.

Here is another picture with the rest of the story….

Do you see the blue lines?  Flood lines.  : (((((   During the 2008 flood, the water went that high on both buildings.  Seven feet.  I was so happy to see the Maid Rite open.  I was happy to see my grandparents’ house had been repaired.   That neighborhood was very special to me and it is so sad to see the devastation of the flooding.   Happily, I did photograph Lauren here, it was a blast and I’m working on the images.  I’ll post them soon.
